PPA Head To Washington D.C

National Poker Week takes place on July 19th through to July 25th and the non-profit membership organisation known as the Poker Players Alliance will be heading straight to Washington D.C to promote the game and protect the right to play poker during the week of poker related events and activities this year.
The organisation comprises of both offline and online poker players from around the United States who have joined together in order to promote the game and protect American’s right to play poker in all of its many forms.
Along with the PPA’s mission to establish favourable laws in order to provide poker players with secure, safe, and regulated places to play their favourite game, the association will also be sending a petition to President Obama to ask for his support in making the game of poker exempt from the Unlawful Gambling Enforcement Act.
One of the pros heading off to Washing D.C is Howard Lederer. Commenting on National Poker week, he says that “Protecting Americans’ right to play poker – whether online or around the poker table – is something everyone should support even if you don’t play,”
“Restricting what we can do online in the privacy of our own home is a slippery slope, which is why I am coming to Washington for National Poker Week – to tell my members of Congress to protect my rights.”
A charity poker tournament will also take place on July 21st to benefit the USO and the Malone House at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Wounded servicemen and women will be able to play alongside poker pros, PPA State Directors, and members of congress with all the proceeds going directly to the USO.
