Rakeback Poker update on the news that Annie Duke will be the Commissioner of a new poker league: Live poker has recently become a more divided circuit as registered pros from the big rooms like Full Tilt and PokerStars have kept away from tournaments sponsored by other poker sites. Annie Duke, formerly sponsored by UB.com has teamed up with some heavy hitters to launch a new Pro Poker League which is looking to shake up the system and provide a Grand Slam of poker similar to that in tennis and golf.
We offer 27% Full Tilt Rakeback ($600 sign up bonus) and 30% Absolute Poker Rakeback ($1,100 sign up bonus) to all our players.
The new Pro Poker League introduced by Federated Sports and Gaming (FS&G) and the Palms Casino Resort is looking to unify poker five teams a year with four rake free tournaments and an additional championship event held in Las Vegas. Annie Duke will hold the role of Commissioner for the Pro Poker League which has raised eyebrows in some corners of the world given her tempestuous relationship with one of the game’s most marketable players Daniel Negreanu.
The new Pro Poker League would feature four tournaments where the top 200 players in the world would be invited to play and then a championship event at the end of the season. These 200 players will no include online cash or tournament players and the calculation will be made by a mathematical formula similar to that on the PGA Tour or ATP tour. Duke has announced that the formula will be made public quashing rumours that old time pros will get a walk from Duke and be able to play in her League.
The worry for the poker community is that there will be some special dispensations for some players which will mean the easily marketable players will play without making the cut by the mathematical model. The make up of the first tournament will be very interesting and will no doubt set a precedent for whether this tour is likely to be successful. Relying on players whose peak was several years ago may well aggravate the online community which more and more funds the biggest tournaments around the world.
This is not a new concept and it will require the initial buy in of the biggest players and also a very calm head from Jeffrey Pollack (former WSOP Commissioner) when deciding which 200 players will be invited. Also will Full tilt Poker’s Daniel Negreanu accept an invitation from a tournament run by Annie Duke. The answers will be revealed later this year.
