Quoss Wins English Poker Open

Fabian Quoss EPO 2010 Winner

Germany’s Fabian Quoss has won the English Poker Open in London defeating a strong international field to take home the £220,650 first place out of the guaranteed $1m prize pool. Quoss went into the Final Table as third chip stack but won the £3,500 + £250 buy in event when his AQ dominated Sebastian Crul’s A5.

Over the previous three days some of the brightest stars in poker were eliminated with Phil Laak (currently at the Final Table at the WSOPE Six-Max event) cashing as well as Lib Boeree (recent winner on the EPT) whilst Neil Channing, Brandon Cantu, David “Viffer” Peat, Frank Kassela, Chris Bjorin (also on Laak’s Final Table), Jake Cody, James Akenhead, Jennifer Tilly and Annette Obrestad all failed to make the money. Brazilian pro Felipe Ramos was the highest place pro when he finished in fourth.

For German Quoss though it was a tournament to savour as he walked away with the biggest win of his poker life. He chipped up constantly during the Final table but started the day with a suck out on Stephen Chimelski whose pocket queens were well ahead of the German’s tens. A ten on the river was a sign of things to come and sent Chimelski home and Quoss into the chip lead.

Quoss stayed out of elimination pots until he knocked out Britain’s Andrew Brennan in sixth place. A straight race preflop turned into quad aces for Quoss as his AK connected three times to leave Brennan settling for £40,750. Sebastian Crul who would lose to Quoss heads up then knocked out Felipe Ramos and Matthew Frankland (the last British hope and chip leader at the start of the day).

Heads up didn’t take long with a four bet turning into an all in and a call. Quoss tabled the winning AQ to Crul’s A5 and on a board of A,K,8,3,6 there was no comeback for Crul. He did pick up £129,000 for his efforts but Quoss took the lion’s share and the George Trophy for his victory.
