Rakeback poker – Phil Ivey Wins 8th Bracelet

Full Tilt's Phil IveyPhil Ivey who plays at Full Tilt Poker secured his 8th World Series of Poker bracelet to move into 5th in the all time bracelet winners list and further enhanced his reputation as one of the most fearsome tournament players in the world. Ivey has now won 8 bracelets in a whole range of different games at the World Series of Poker to show his versatility with cards and chips.

Having won his first bracelet in 2000 he has now won bracelets playing Pot Limit Omaha, Stud 8, S.H.O.E., Seven Card Stud, 2-7 Draw Lowball, Omaha 8 and after this win H.O.R.S.E. and a whole range of side bets with other high stakes poker professionals. It is unknown exactly how much he will be calling in from other pros and it is doubted whether many will have bet against him as they did to Tom Dwan who had a second place earlier in the Series to deny him his first bracelet.

Ivey refused to be drawn on the exact sum he could expect but commented “It was over twenty dollars” in his typical understated way. Matusow is definitely coughing up at least $20k after he took some side action on Ivey not making a final table this World Series but Ivey won’t be receiving any of it as Howard Lederer and Mike Sexton will be the beneficiaries.

In the aftermath of the win Ivey made some comments that could only have come from a player of such success stating that “I think I can win 30 gold bracelets” and also questioning what the first place paid out. Most professional poker players wouldn’t dream of getting 10 bracelets so 30 is an outrageous claim but it would be wise not to bet against a man who has won $10m since June last

To win this 8th bracelet Ivey had to overcome an unbelievably talented final table with Bill Chen, John Juanda, David Baker and Chad Brown all in attendance. These four all have bracelets to their name and are well respected at the highest level.

Ivey defeated Bill Chen heads up and when questioned to the root of his success he responded “I never doubt myself” even though he was one of the small stacks throughout the closing stages. Britain’s David Baker made another deep run in the tournament to cement this as his best World Series of Poker whilst john Juanda was glad to be back at another final table eventually finishing 3rd.

Full Tilt Poker’s Phil Ivey has been on an unbelievable run both online and live in the last year winning over $10m from cash games and tournaments. Thirty bracelets may seem a long way off but at only 33 he has a lot of events still to play and some rakeback poker money to earn too!
