This year’s World Series of Poker at the Rio in Las Vegas is set to break all previous records and the good people at the Rio are ready for it. Expectations are high that attendance records will be shattered and with PokerStars launching their WSOP satellites this week this news is very well-timed.
The Rio Casino have set up two rooms full of 377 tables, which would be able to cope with 3,750 people on any one day. Given that there are four Day 1s (Day 1A, Day 1B Day 1C Day 1D) this leaves the Rio with a capacity for the tournament of 15,000. Or put another way a potential prize pool of $150m to be split between the competitors!
World Series of Poker President Ty Stewart is confident ahead of this year’s Main Event:
“”With the plans we’ve put in place we expect the numbers to be very strong. Here comes a bold prediction: We’re very confident total participation will again set a record this year.”
Initial estimates and pre-booked places all indicate that this year will indeed set records and with so many online poker sites offering qualifiers to the WSOP there is a hope that the first prize may approach the $10m mark.
Despite the Spring Championship of Online Poker at PokerStars launching this last week, PokerStars have also launched qualifiers to the WSOP following in the footsteps of other poker sites such as Full Tilt Poker and Cake Poker.
